Organisational Program Framework (01)

I wish to take some previous blogs on my Project Knowledge Model (PKM) further, specifically the blogs at Project Knowledge Sectors (01), Project Knowledge Sectors (02), and The Business Plan and Projects. This is about understanding the big picture and how the program concepts can "flow" ..... horizontally and vertically.

The first concept is to understand that there are multiple levels of information/knowledge fidelity ....how many depends on your view of organisational structure, strategy and the size of the organisation you are dealing with ....and probably a few other things as well! We might call this the "vertical" dimension. I am going to say there are three levels - strategic, operations and system (you may see less or more of course):

  • The strategic level is where all the high level corporate/organisational guidance and analysis is produced based upon the business plan, industry context and intent of the board or controlling body. If it is a government organisation this might be the intent of the Government of the day.
  • The operations level takes that strategic level guidance and develops the operations level needs for the future direction of the organisation.
  • The system level provides the answer to the question ...."if I have this operations level need, how might a system perform to satisfy those needs?".
